About Billy
William (Billy) Hallowell was born on September 28, 1983 in Rochester, New York. Since the age of 15, he has been working through the communications industry to connect with and reach out to his peers. Through journalism, media, public speaking appearances and the blogosphere, Billy has worked to inspire and motivate his generation. People from around the United States have noticed his hard work and dedication. He has been published and featured in political and cultural books, textbooks, articles and Web sites that focus on the youth of America and its role in the future of the world.
Over the years, Billy has received many honors. In 2003, he was selected to represent the United States at the World Bank’s conference on youth development in Paris, France. Following this experience, Billy was honored by the International Youth Foundation with the YouthAction Net Fellowship. On the educational front, he was a Rhodes Scholar nominee in 2006 and the recipient of the prestigious Clark Fellowship during the same year. In addition to these honors, Billy has received numerous journalism and community awards for his work.
Since his creation of the teen issues Web site, Teen Web Online, Billy has been traveling, speaking and working for a better tomorrow. Teen Web Online came about in December of 1999 when he decided to take action after the Columbine shooting in April of that year. Other media outlets he has been featured in or produced works for include: COSMO Girl Magazine, NY Teen, Teenage Buzz Magazine, Positive Teens Magazine, SNAP, Many Voices, Many Visions, NBC’s The John Walsh Show and Radio Disney, among many others.
Billy continues his advocacy and community work through Pathufind Media, his interactive political blog, regular appearances on community-based radio-programs and through Static News, an up-and-coming project that seeks to engage America’s youth in the political process.
Billy Hallowell was educated at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York, and graduated with a B.A. in communications, with concentrations in broadcasting, corporate and journalism, and a minor in writing. In June 2008, Billy completed his M.S. in social research from Hunter College in Manhattan, New York.
